Activities: The AADB's Information Clearinghouse provides technical assistance; information and referral; and publications and informational materials on deaf-blindness and related issues. People can use these materials to learn about available programs and services, and/or to educate others about the needs of the deaf-blind community. The Mentoring Pilot Project trains deaf-blind adults to be mentors to deaf-blind youth, and strives to develop new deaf-blind leaders. The AADB organises Biannual National Conferences giving deaf-blind people and supporters from all over the USA and other countries an opportunity to come together for support and networking. Advocacy projects involve trainings; presentations and outreach; collaboration with organizations and agencies on issues important to deaf-blind people; and involvement with legislators, manufacturers, and other entities on behalf of people with combined vision and hearing losses.

Activities: Provides innovative rehabilitation services, training and stable employment opportunities as a major manufacturer and retailer of quality goods, employing over 400 blind and partially sighted associates. Blind Industries is a participating agency in the Javits-Wagner-O'Day (JWOD) Program, and a direct source for more than 2000 quality SKILCRAFT products made by Americans who are blind or severely disabled. Provide comprehensive, job-related computer training programs. Blind Industries also provides computerized Braille production services to both commercial and government customers for a wide variety of documents and publications.

Activities: IEF's core blindness prevention and sight restoration activities in the developing world include: Fighting cataract, trachoma, "river blindness," and childhood blindness; Improving the quality of eye care services; Providing affordable ophthalmic supplies, equipment, and medicines; Building the management and financial capacity of eye hospitals that serve everyone, especially the poor. As IEF continue to develop eye-health services, train ophthalmologists and paramedicals, and fight vitamin A deficiency, trachoma and "river blindness," they are also strengthening the management, quality of service, and income-generating activities so that eye clinics are less dependent on outside donors and government funds.

Activities: The Maryland School for the Blind is a statewide educational resource for individuals (particularly ages 0-21) who are blind or visually impaired, including those with multiple disabilities. Providing a traditional classroom education, including math, reading and science, in addition to a wide range of other services, including: Braille & low vision instruction, orientation & mobility, assistive technology, therapeutic recreation, residential services, career education, health & dental services, psychology, social work, speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, outreach, transition, audiology and infant/toddler services.

Activities: The National Eye Institute (NEI) supports and conducts research aimed at improving the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of diseases that affect the eye and vision. The NEI, a Federal government agency, is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. An internationally recognized team of scientists conducts research in the NEI's own laboratory and clinical facilities located on the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland. The NEI also supports extramural research at universities, medical schools, hospitals, and other institutions throughout the United States and abroad. Through its Office of Communication, Health Education, and Public Liaison (OC), the NEI responds to requests from both professional and lay audiences. The OC provides information directly, distributes publications, and provides referrals to other organizations and agencies, when appropriate.

Activities: The ultimate purpose of the NFB is the complete integration of the blind into society on a basis of equality. The objective involves the removal of legal, economic, and social discriminations; the education of the public to new concepts concerning blindness; and the achievement by all blind people of the right to exercise their fullest individual talents and capacities. The NFB's International Braille and Technology Center for the Blind is a complete evaluation and demonstration center for all speech and Braille technology used by the blind from around the world.
