Activities: Formed in 1984 by a merger of the American Association of Workers for the Blind
and the Association for Education of the Visually Handicapped, AER is the only organization representing
the interests of all professionals who work in education and rehabilitation of the blind and visually
impaired. AER supports professional growth through formal and continuing education and advocates public
policies which improve and expand services for all individuals with visual impairments. AER's mission
is to develop and promote professional excellence through support of those who provide services to
people with visual impairments.
