Braille Slates

These devices include slates and frames where each dot is embossed downwards by a stylus; this necessitates writing Braille in mirror-image form from right to left. Some Braille slates are part of a frame such that a two-line slate can be stepped down a page to give a whole page of Braille. Plastic slates are lighter than metal ones but the hinges tend to have a lower life expectancy. Frames without hinges only work with a fixed size of paper, but are very popular as a pocket note-taking device. The design of the handle of the stylus significantly affects the ease of use, but the larger handles are less convenient to carry in the pocket. Various attempts have been made to produce upward-writing Braille slates; to date, none of these devices have been easy to use by a blind person.

Interpoint Slate
This slate allows braille to be embossed on both sides of a sheet of paper. It allows the user to use a set of registration holes which offsets the paper. This prevents dots embossed on the second side from interfering with dots already embossed on the first side. The Interpoint Slate is a 28-cell metal slate which is slotted for labelling tape.

This rugged vinyl carrying case will hold any APH Pocket or Postcard Slate. SlateHolder also has a second pocket which will carry two styluses or a stylus and APH's Wooden Braille Eraser.
