The simple magnifiers in this section are easily portable and may be hand held or stand (they stand on the material and are moved along as necessary). Larger magnifiers will clamp to a work surface or rest on a desk - usually on a heavy metal base allowing material to be moved and viewed underneath it. These larger magnifiers are transportable rather than portable.

It is important to recognise that the higher the power of the magnifier the smaller the diameter of the lens; however low powered magnifiers are also available in smaller sizes.

Some of these products are available in high street shops, and may be relatively inexpensive.
