Tactaphone
Tactaphone is a patented communication system including a tactile input device and a tactile output device capable of sending and receiving a phoneme stream. The one-handed input device is used as a “talking hand” to key-in phonemes, convertible instantly to speech and translatable to text. The one-handed output device is used as a “listening hand” to feel patterns of vibrations corresponding to phonemes. It can also be used for reading text, with significant advantages over Braille. There is also potential to use it as a lip-reading aid. Cloudworld, together with a new company, AccessEquality Technology Ltd, is seeking funding to develop this highly portable system, which allows efficient and effective reading, writing and communication by deafblind people, and which is capable of low cost production.
