DigiCite
DigiCite is an electronic device that converts LED displays to speech
output. It is a compact machine-vision system that continuously monitors
and captures images of digital displays, such as alphanumeric LEDs. Whenever
the display changes, DigiCite converts the display image to text and provides
notification using recorded speech or other, optional outputs. DigiCite
works with telephone consoles, measurement, recording and test equipment,
and many other electronic devices. DigiCite can be used with several existing
appliances in the workplace and home, as opposed to a number of specialized
or retrofitted units for each application. Since digitized speech, rather
than voice synthesis, is used to read out numeric display values, DigiCite
can accomodate any language, and even several languages, within a single
unit.

Responder
Responder is a machine-vision-based automated monitoring system that provides a continuous watch on electronic equipment, such as alarm panels, and provides notification via speech output or other, optional means. Responder "watches" your existing equipment, such as banks of alarm panels, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. When an event occurs, such as a specific type of alarm takes place, Responder provides corresponding event notification using recorded and/or synthetic speech over loudspeakers, public address systems and/or telephone systems and modems. Responder also maintains a complete log of all events, which aids in verifying operational status of the equipment being monitored. Responder runs on IBM-compatible PC running Windows NT 4.0, Service Pack 4.
Responder M1
The standard Responder system, consisting of a single
computer and from 1 to 3 monochrome (black & white) digital cameras.
The Responder M1 provides speech enabled automated monitoring suitable
for most environments where notification is required only for on/off type
alarms and/or events.
Responder C1
This is the colour Responder system, which offers
the same capabilities as the M1, plus it can provide notification of alarms
and/or events by differentiating between colours (e.g., green, yellow,
red situations). Compusult also provide combinations of Responder M1 and
C1 systems networked together to provide a complete automated monitoring
solution.

ScanTell
Scantell identifies and speaks the names of bar-coded products, thus allowing
people who are visually impaired or have reading problems to easily and
accurately identify retail products and personal items in their homes
with no assistance from others. The items are then located in a cross-referenced,
relational database. The description of each successfully identified item
is output using voice synthesizer software and hardware. ScanTELL is currently available for Windows 95 and MS-DOS based desktop, notebook, and palmtop PCs. Windows 95 version minimal requirements - 16MB of RAM, Pentium 90 processor, 20 MB of hard disk space, bar code scanner with keyboard wedge interface, CD-ROM, a SoundBlaster 16 compatible sound card, and a compatible speech synthesizer. (The current synthesizers completely compatible with ScanTELL are AcuVoice and SounText, both available through Compusult.). AcuVoice requires an additional 300MB of hard disk space for installation. Please note, it can also run directly from CD-ROM if space is limited but this will slightly reduce the speed of ScanTELL. MS-DOS version minimal requirements - 640 KB of RAM, 5MB of hard disk space, and serial and parallel ports. A bar-code scanner with a serial interface and a voice synthesizer and a compatible sound card are also required.
ScanTell Desktop
ScanTELL software and database. Desktop or handheld bar code scanner. Internal or external voice synthesizer. Options: wireless scanner (not recommend for a legally blind person), voice transmitter, bar code printer.
ScanTell Notebook
ScanTELL software and database. Handheld bar code scanner. External voice synthesizer (parallel port or PCMCIA slot connection). Battery or A/C powered.

Vindicator
Electronic products that use optical
and electrical sensors to automatically detect on/off events and provide
corresponding notification to blind, visually impaired, hearing impaired
or deaf persons, allowing them to independently work in
switchboard, security and other technical and service-oriented environments.
Vindicator's standard output is digitized speech in any language. Other
optional outputs are available. These include large format alphanumeric
displays, LED indicators, audible tones, serial interfaces to computer
systems, electrical signals, etc., depending on the particular needs.
Vindicator Standard
Detects when LED, VFD or LCD display indicators
turn on and off and provides notification of these changes using digitized
speech or other, optional outputs. Different words or phrases can be output
for each indicator when it turns on, when it turns off or both. Vindicator
Standard is available in 8 and 16 line versions, one line for each electronic
display indicator. Can choose between a speech-enabled standalone unit
or one that provides a serial interface to computer systems or other electronic
equipment. The serial interface version is also compatible with Compusult's
DigiCite and Responder systems.
Vindicator Wired
Detects voltage on/off conditions from an electrical panel or other device and provides notification of these changes using digitized speech, large format LED displays or encoded output via a serial interface to a computer system. Vindicator Wired is available in 8, 16 and 40 line versions, one line for each external input. You can choose between a speech-enabled standalone unit or one that provides a serial interface to computer systems, LED display systems or other electronic equipment. The serial interface version is also compatible with Compusult's DigiCite and Responder systems.
Vindicator RF Switch
Detects when equipment, switches or indicators are on and off and transmits notification via radio frequency to a receiving unit for output using audible tones and large LEDs or digitized speech. Vindicator RF is used to identify events in locations away from an individual's general work area and requires no external wiring between locations. Vindicator RF is available in single or multiple transmitter/receiver versions.
Vindicator Button
Detects when an LED or VFD display indicator turns on and off and provides notification of these changes using audible tones. Each Vindicator Button is a small, standalone device designed to fit over a single electronic indicator to provide audible output as an alternative to a visual display. Vindicator buttons are available with various audible tones to help identify different indicators and events.

i.d.mate II
Picture
i.d. mate II is a portable, electronic device that aids a blind or visually
impaired individual with the identification of items using the product's
bar code or UPC. Using digital voice recording and text-to-speech technologies,
the product allows users to access a large database of product descriptions,
along with a tailored set of their own recorded voice messages. i.d. mate
II can be used to quickly identify any product or item that is not easily
recognized by means of the other senses, including: cans, jars, boxes,
bottles, clothing, playing cards, prescription drugs, compact discs, albums,
cassette tapes, diskettes, books, important papers or file folders etc.
Bar codes are already placed on virtually every product sold in stores
today. And, i.d. mate II already contains a huge database of items including:
grocery, spirits, pharmacy, movies, music and much more. As an added benefit,
many items in this database include extended package details, including:
nutritional information, ingredients, warnings, instructions package size,
and miscellaneous package details. This bar code data, which is stored
on the memory card, is growing every day, and database updates are available
online or on a CD ROM. Also, the user can load their own specialized database.
In addition, i.d. mate II allows the user to associate any number of recorded
voice messages with a bar code that is scanned. If no description is found
in its database, the user is prompted to record their own voice description.
When that bar code is scanned in the future, the recorded descriptions
are played back.
i.d. mate II uses a special omni-directional bar code scanner. There is
no need for the user to know the exact location of the bar code label.
The user simply rotates the scanner around the product to get a quick,
reliable read. The scanner can read the bar code in any direction every
time. The entire unit weighs less than two pounds and is stored in a convenient
carrying case that can be worn on a belt or over the shoulder. A specialized
case for mobile employees and vendors is also available. The unit is supplied
with a flash memory card. This card provides plenty of record time in
addition to the already installed UPC database. The cards are removable
and can be upgraded to higher memory capacities up to 1 gigabyte. Also,
the data is easily backed up to a PC using a USB memory card reader.
In addition to identification of products, i.d. mate II can be used as
a digital memo recorder. The user can record, play, and erase any number
of voice memos.
The i.d. mate II is completely portable and battery operated. The unit
has a high-capacity, rechargeable battery pack that lasts all day before
needing to be recharged. The device is also fully operational when plugged
into a standard AC wall outlet.

Loquendo TTS (Text to Speech)
Loquendo TTS software provides a lifelike voice for the dynamic data and
prompts in voice applications. Loquendo TTS is an ever-increasing family
of expressive lifelike voices and personas from around the world. Currently
ships in 16 languages and 36 voices. For many
of the languages, both female and male voices are available. It is designed for use
in any kind of voice application including highly intensive TTS applications
(e.g. Voice Portals). Standard APIs allow easy integration into the user's
platform and service environments. The multi-threaded, multi-process architecture
supports deployment in any high performance software architecture. This
engine can contemporarily synthesize different languages and voices, switching
between them at any time, on any channel. Its Mixed Language Capability enables foreign words to be pronounced correctly
without changing the current voice and language. The User Dictionary makes
sure that any specialized vocabulary terms, abbreviations, acronyms and
even regional pronunciation differences sound just like the developer
intends them to. The characteristics of each voice (i.e. pitch, speaking
rate and volume) can be fine-tuned and controlled. Special formats such
as phone numbers, currencies and e-mail headers are read correctly. It
has a built-in language detector that automatically identifies the language
in any text.
