It is estimated that there are over four million people in the European Union with a severe hearing impairment. Many of these people will want to use a hearing aid to give them full use of the telephone.

Coupling to a telephone may be by any appropriate means, including inductive coupling, infra-red, direct electrical connection, or by matched acoustic transducers.

ETSI standards (ETS 300 381 and ETS 300 679) should be observed where appropriate.

Additional cost - low
