Scope: Support research into diabetes or subjects relevant to diabetes. Research may be either clinical or of a fundamental scientific nature, the guiding principle being that work supported by the organisation will be expected to contribute towards an understanding of the causes, prevention or treatment of diabetes and its complications, or the welfare of people with diabetes.
Types of awards available: Project grants: Large research projects of up to £225,00 for a maximum of three years (projects under three years will be funded on a pro rata basis). Small grants: Small research projects or pilot studies of up to £10,000, there are 15 awarded each year and no closing date.
Restrictions: The research must be carried out in the United Kingdom.
Method of research fund allocation: All proposals are externally refereed, scored anonymously by the Committee and feedback given to all applicants.
Submission of applications: Applicants for Project Grants are expected to submit one single sided application with original signatures plus five double sided copies (six hard copies in total) and an electronic copy. The closing dates for all project grant applications are 1 April, 1 August and 1 December each year. Applications for a Small Grant should be made on a project grant form with a reduced plan of investigation. Applicants are expected to submit one single sided application with original signatures plus five double sided copies (six hard copies in total) and an electronic copy. Applications can be submitted to the organisation at any time and they are sent out for peer review.
