Scope: Funds research into
the causes, diagnosis and prevention of blindness and the treatment of eye disease.
Types of Award Available:
Clinical Fellowships: awards open to medical, nursing and allied health professional graduates (including optometrists and orthoptists) and will lead to the presentation of a PhD over three years. PhD Studentships: to support the training of graduate PhD students. Project Grants: projects must be of significant or potential benefit to people experiencing eye disease.
Method of research fund allocation: Recommended by Fight for Sight
Grants Committee.
Submission of applications: Candidates for a PhD Studentship or Project Grant must complete an intital Abstract Application form, followed by a full applicaition form if requested. Clinical Fellowship candidates must complete a full application form. One copy of application forms should be sent by email to grants@fightforsight.org.uk, and the original copy sent by post to The Grants Officer. Example of current research activities: Project
Grants for research into the role of SOX2 and related genes in eye development, maintenance and disease. PhD Fellowships for research into Ca2+ sparks and Ca2+ waves in retinal arteriolar smooth muscle cells and their disruption by diabetes.

Scope: The Foyle Foundation distributes grants to charitable organisations
in the UK in the areas of: Learning, Arts and Health.
Types of awards available: A minimum of £10,000 to a maximum
of £50,000. In exceptional circumstances large grants may be payable over two to three years.
Restrictions: Applicants should be UK charities. An organisation
may only apply for one grant per year. Applications from private schools, community arts activities or advocacy, counselling and general support services are generally not supported.
Method of research fund allocation: Applications are considered by the Chief Executive and the Trustees.
Submission of applications: Application forms should be sent to
the above address, and are accepted all year round, but should be made 6 months before the proposed funding is required.
