Scope: To promote study and research in ophthalmology in related subjects and publish the useful results of such study and research.
Types of awards available: Several funding schemes are available - Dorey Bequest and Sir William Lister Awards: These awards which are for ophthalmologists in training who are citizens of the United Kingdom as well as Members and Fellows of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, in good standing. There are generally four awards of £300 - £600 made each year; Ethicon Foundation Fund: For the purpose of promoting international goodwill in ophthalmology by providing financial assistance to Fellows or Members of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists who are travelling abroad for research or training; International Glaucoma Association Fellowship: Applications are invited for this Postgraduate Fellowship to facilitate research into glaucoma. The Fellowship is awarded every second year and is upto the value of £30,000; Patrick Trevor-Roper Undergraduate Travel Award: Is open to all undergraduate medical students from the UK and Eire only with an interest in the subspecialty. There are two awards to be made annually, each for the sum of £550. This money can be used to fund electives in Ophthalmology and may be spent on travelling or subsistence; Pfizer Ophthalmic Fellowship: This award which is offered to enable an ophthalmologist to acquire special skills, knowledge and experience at a suitable location in the United Kingdom or elsewhere for a minimum period of six months; the clinical fellowship should enable the successful applicant to make a significant impact on specialist clinical services locally after completion of the fellowship. Some awards are purely for travel purposes whilst others are more substantial.
Restrictions: All applicants must be members of the College (apart from the Patrick Trevor Roper Undergraduate Award which does not require membership of the College). Some of the awards stipulate that applicants must be UK citizens.
Method of Fund Allocation: Application forms are submitted to the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and a panel of judges decide on the successful candidate for funding. Some awards have an interview process.
Submission of Applications: Applications are to be submitted by post (5 copies of the application form and 5 copies of the Curriculum Vitae) in good time for the deadline. These can be found on the Royal College of Ophthalmologists' website.

Scope: The objects for which the College is incorporated include: to promote study and research in ophthalmology in related subjects and publish the useful results of such study and research.
Types of awards available: Ophthalmology Section Travelling Fellowship: To enable British ophthalmologists to travel abroad, or foreign ophthalmologists to visit the UK, for purposes of study and advancement of ophthalmology. The award assists towards travel expenses. Variable size and number of fellowships, depending on availability of accumulated funds.
Restrictions: Open to ophthalmologists, of any nationality. Preference to younger candidates, who have not yet attained an official consultant appointment, or undertaken substantial professional clinical work. Awards are tenable at appropriate institutions in the UK (overseas fellows) or abroad (UK candidates), for an unspecified duration.
Submission of applications: By an application form available from the Administrator. Deadline for submissions: 1 May 2007.
