UK research subjects
Do you require blind and partially sighted subjects to participate in your research?
The RNIB Scientific Research Unit has compiled an ever-expanding database of blind and partially sighted people who are willing to participate in non-medical scientific research, in the UK, that influences the design of equipment and systems for the blind and partially sighted.
To request access to the database (in compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998), you must agree to abide by the following principles:
- An aim of the project must be that it is "of long-term benefit to blind and partially sighted people".
- At any time subjects are free to refuse or withdraw from a project without giving a reason.
- There must be no detrimental effects to the subjects.
- All subjects must be told in advance the maximum duration of input they will be required for and whether they will be paid.
- Subjects should be sufficiently briefed and debriefed with regards to the experiment and informed of the outcomes of the project.
- The identity of individual subjects must not be revealed in any publications or reports.
- The results should be in the public domain.
- The subject's personal data must not be passed onto any third party.
- If there are any alterations to the researcher's requirements for subject's participation, the Scientific Research Unit must be notified.
- Information about subjects must be passed back to the Scientific Research Unit, so the database can be updated.
If you agree to the above principles, please download and complete a request form (Word KB).
